City University Qatar (CUQ), in partnership with Ulster University, successfully launched the CUQ Career Lab Series with an engaging session on Biomedical Engineering. Held on 2nd February 2025 at our state-of-the-art Lusail Campus, the event attracted aspiring students, parents, and career advisers eager to explore the future of healthcare technology.

A Deep Dive into Biomedical Engineering

The session featured Paul Guy, a distinguished Health Consultant and former Sidra Hospital Scientist, who flew in from Australia to share his expertise. With over 40 years of experience in adult and paediatric clinical research, Paul provided a comprehensive insight into the multifaceted world of biomedical engineering, touching on topics such as medical device innovation, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and the role of engineering in shaping the future of medicine.

Students engaged in an interactive discussion, learning how biomedical engineers contribute to areas like genetic research, medical imaging, prosthetics, and artificial organ development. Paul highlighted the profession’s evolution, its growing demand in Qatar, and the interdisciplinary skills required to excel in the field.

Career Opportunities and Academic Pathways

The event also introduced attendees to CUQ’s Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering, detailing the curriculum, career prospects, and internship opportunities available through the programme. CUQ’s Student Affairs Team provided guidance on entry requirements for students from various educational backgrounds, including CBSE, British, and Qatari national curricula.
