30/06/2025City University Qatar (CUQ), in partnership with Ulster University, hosted an interactive Electronic Engineering Lab Experience on 25th June 2025 at its Lusail Campus. Designed for high school students in Grades 11 and 12, the session offered a hands-on introduction to the world of electronic circuits, components, and real-life tech applications.

Led by Ms Habiba Akram, Senior Lecturer in Computing and Electronic Engineering, and supported by Ms Sakiruba Veramani, Lab Assistant, the workshop provided students with the opportunity to explore how modern electronics power everyday technology—from smartphones to smart homes.
Hands-On Learning with Real Tech Tools
Participants rotated through a series of experiments, each designed to build understanding through practical application:
- Built circuits using switches to observe how electricity flows
- Tested diodes and analysed how they control the direction of current
- Explored passive components such as batteries, coils, and capacitors
- Worked with transistors and switches, key parts in modern electronics
- Designed and tested logic circuits using CEDAR Logic Simulator software
- Used Arduino boards to measure temperature and humidity—viewing results directly on their phones
The lab emphasised both technical skill and safety, teaching students how to work with real electronic systems in a safe, structured environment. Each attendee received a certificate of participation.
Sparking Interest in Engineering
This engaging session is part of CUQ’s broader effort to introduce younger students to the exciting possibilities in STEM. By combining real-world experimentation with accessible explanations, students left the session with a deeper understanding of electronics—and many with a newfound interest in pursuing engineering.
